Swansea singer releases CD in aid of Alzheimer's Society

Published 1 March 2012

Lowri Mair

Talented singer Lowri Mair has released an album of stunning song with all proceeds going to Alzheimer's Society.

Lowri, who has accrued a wealth of professional singing experience in a career which began at aged five years old told us why she decided to release a charity album,

'I decided to record a CD in memory of my dadcu (grandfather) Gwynfor Jones and mamgu (grandmother) Morfydd Dilys Davies from Pontarddulais. They both lived with dementia, and my Mamgu regularly visited Garngoch Day Centre.'

She recalls that it was during a trip to Mumbles that she first noticed that there was something wrong with her grandfather, and shortly afterward he was diagnosed with dementia. Pictures taken on Mumbles beach featuring on the album cover are her small way of paying tribute to his memory.

It's with her incredible voice, however, that she can really use her memory of her grandparents to create something beautiful.  With tracks ranging from traditional Welsh songs to popular musical theatre and contemporary ballads, there is something for everyone to enjoy on the CD, entitled Rhywen Fel Ti (Someone Like You). Lowri thinks that her grandparents would have approved of her method of fundraising, as she explains,

'They both had a love for music and some of the tracks were chosen specifically for them. By recording a CD I believed that it will help to develop people's awareness of Alzheimer's and would be a great way to raise money for the Society.'

Costing just £6, with all profits from sales going to Alzheimer's Society, the album can be purchased online from Lowri's website at www.lowrimair.co.uk,where you can also watch videos of her past perfomances.

We'd like to thank Lowri for her support and wish her all the best with the album and her future fundraising efforts. To find out more about all the other fundraising activities taking place in South Wales, and how you can get involved, head to our South Wales area fundraising page.
