Family experience leads to successful fundraising event

First-hand experience of a relative and her family coping with Alzheimer’s has led to the organising of a successful fundraising event raising £4,000.
Lucy Crosland and Sophie De Menthon, both from central Cambridge, decided to hold a 60's evening of dinner and dancing to raise money for Alzheimer's Society and raise awareness of the effects of this disease, not only on the person suffering but also the family caring for them.
Lucy says,
'Four years ago my grandmother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and since that time we have seen her steadily deteriorate to the point where she no longer knows us and is totally dependent on others to look after her.
'With the incidence of Alzheimer's rising, I wanted to play my part in not only raising money but also increasing awareness of what this disease can do to a family. We are so grateful to everyone who came along to support us, as well as those who contributed in so many ways including loaning us the venue, bidding for auction lots and donating gifts for the raffle.'
The event was held on Friday 30 September at Chrishall Grange near Royston.
