£18 million for dementia research announced by the government

The £18 million funding will be split between four new biomedical research units specialising in dementia research, at the University of Cambridge, Newcastle University, Kings College London and University College London.

Alzheimer's Society comment:

'It is fabulous news that dementia research is finally being taken seriously and beginning to be treated as the priority it should be. The funding is a very significant first step on the road to bringing dementia in line with other conditions such as cancer, which receives eight times more government funding.

'There is a great opportunity here to make a real and lasting difference for people with dementia and their carers. We look forward to seeing the results transform lives.'
