£18 million for dementia research announced by the government
Published 18 August 2011
The government has announced an £800 million investment in health research over the next five years today (Thursday, 18 August), including £18 million for dementia research.
Alzheimer's Society comment:
'It is fabulous news that dementia research is finally being taken seriously and beginning to be treated as the priority it should be. The funding is a very significant first step on the road to bringing dementia in line with other conditions such as cancer, which receives eight times more government funding.
'There is a great opportunity here to make a real and lasting difference for people with dementia and their carers. We look forward to seeing the results transform lives.'
