Nell McAndrew, Model, TV presenter and fitness enthusiast is urging people in Derbyshire to enter the first ever Wilne 10k and raise funds for Alzheimer’s Society.

The Wilne 10K will take place on Saturday September 4 starting from Church Wilne Water Sports Club, Draycott.  Organiser Richard Kay, a former international athlete himself is hoping that more than 600 people will enter the race.  Richard, whose grandfather died with dementia, decided that he would like to nominate Alzheimer's Society as the official event charity and is offering all runners the opportunity to support the charity.  Runners can make a donation at the time of entry or can raise sponsorship for undertaking the challenge.

Nell is delighted to support Richard Kay in this inaugural Wilne 10K, as she like Richard, recently lost her beloved grandfather to dementia. Nell has clocked up many marathons, half marathons and 10K races for good causes, in fact Nell ran last year's Bupa Great North Run in aid of Alzheimer's Society, finishing in an impressive 1 hour 26 minutes.

Nell said:

'My granddad, Sam, had Alzheimer's disease and died unexpectedly in March last year. It has been a huge blow to me, as we were very close and shared the same birthday. I know he would have been proud of me when I've chosen to run races in aid of Alzheimer's Society and helped to support other families struggling against this, as yet, incurable condition. Please sign up today to run the Wilne 10K and make this first race a huge success. You can choose to make a donation at the time of registration or raise funds through sponsorship and these vital funds will go towards supporting people with dementia and their carers today, and funding research to find a cure in the future. Thank you for your support.'

Jeremy Hughes, Chief Executive at Alzheimer's Society, said:

'We are delighted that Nell is lending her support to this event to support Alzheimer's Society. One in three people over 65 will die with dementia. It is more than just memory loss; it robs people of their lives and has a devastating impact on families and loved ones. As a charity, we rely on the generosity of individuals to help us continue our vital work. Please think about entering and raising funds so that Alzheimer's Society can continue leading the fight against dementia.'
