Q: How does Alzheimer's Society fund research?

Answer:

Alzheimer's Society has the longest and largest public involvement in dementia research. We work with the scientific community in partnership with people affected by dementia, and currently invest over £6 million in dementia research.

Alzheimer's Society has funded over 100 research projects in leading scientific institutions across the UK. This research falls into four main categories:

Dementia researchers across the UK apply to the Society for funding. Their applications are reviewed by people with dementia, carers and former carers (called the Quality Research in Dementia - QRD - Network) before review by expert scientists in the field. This unique approach ensures we fund the highest quality research that will benefit people with dementia and their carers.

Successful applicants are interviewed by a mixed panel of scientists and QRD network members. The final decision on funding is made by the grant panel.
