This year for Dementia Awareness Week™ something rather special will be happening in Parliament Street, York and we hope that you will able to be part of the day. Alzheimer's Society are putting on a 1950's  Coffee Bar for a day to remember. As well as coffee, tea and cakes (for a small donation), guests will be able to enjoy a range of vintage cars, music and street entertainment reflective of the era. Rayner Rock 'n' Roll York will be joining us to add a little street theatre and fun to the day's events, with dance lessons from Eileen for those who want to get involved. Andrew Knights, Alzheimer’s Society Music Group Facilitator is set to run the London Marathon on 21 April in aid of Alzheimer’s Society.

As part of his fundraising and to raise awareness of the Alzheimer’s Society New Forest Music Groups, Andrew is inviting local people to visit Milford on Sea Music Group. It is a fantastic opportunity to find out more about dementia and the Milford on Sea Music Group, which is a lifeline to people living with dementia that attend the groups on a monthly basis. Andrew is an extremely talented oboist who has performed in orchestras including the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and BBC Concert Orchestra. Come along and enjoy a cup of tea and slice of cake, sit back and enjoy the music.

'With a wonderful team of volunteers in Hythe, Milford on Sea, Ringwood and Romsey we cherish and ‘unlock’ the fragile memories that remain with the participants of the groups. We marvel at the emotional engagement that becomes possible through the help of the music. Many participants say that music group days are the best of the week.'

The format for this golf day will once again be a team event with team and on course prizes, as well as some of Ray's famous on course hospitality.

The day will commence with full English breakfast from 9.30am, prior to heading out for a shotgun start at 10.30am. Each team will consist of three members of the public, plus a celebrity team captain.

The cabaret dinner in the evening will be a delicious four course meal and a grand charity auction.

By contrast the Seventh Symphony is a grand work both in content and scale. Described by Richard Wagner as the 'apotheosis of the dance', it contains a colourful mixture of rhythms and harmonies. Beethoven's creative energy can be heard in all four movements.

Taking place on Saturday 8 June 2013 at the beautiful Pangbourne Meadow, money raised at the boat race will be split between Alzheimer’s Society, the Duchess of Kent House Hospice and other local causes.

The dragon boat (or a large decorative canoe) will follow a course of around 250 metres down the Thames whilst a helmsman, supplied by the event organisers, will steer the boat. Crews of between 17 - 20 people can enter the race and all equipment including boats, paddles and buoyancy jackets are supplied. No experience is necessary.

It’s a knockout event and every crew is guaranteed three races with various prizes to be won and certificates awarded. As the race is part of the fete, it’s a great day out for all the family boasting a beer tent, BBQ, hog roast, craft stalls, face painting, ice cream, a climbing wall, a bouncy castle and lucky dips.

Last year fourteen crews took part in the spirit of friendly but competitive rivalry - the three finalists were separated by less than five seconds. In the race-off the next three crews, who had been edged out from the major final, were split by only one second! The winners were Foster Wheeler, followed by Pitmans Dragons and then The Grosvenor.  All three were proud to receive their Dragon Head prizes.

From African to Irish and everything in between, dancers from across Bristol have joined together to create a fantastic fusion of different dance styles for a great cause. Following the success of last year's event our Bristol volunteers are organising a repeat cycle ride. Starting from Bitton, the ride goes through Bristol's docksides and Bath's cycle paths covering a flat, 35 mile route.

The garden trail meanders through the town visiting award winning school and organic vegetable gardens, continuing towards the sea via wild flower and  rose gardens before reaching beach side plots enjoying spectacular sea views across The Solent. Many with wheelchair access. Refreshments and plants on sale during the day.

All proceeds will go to St Wilfrid's Hospice and Alzheimer's Society.

Admission Programme: Adults £5 (under 12s go free) includes map and description of each garden, available in Selsey, from the Country Gardens Greengrocer, Summit bikes (hire bikes available) and The Selsey Florist.

This will be the sixth Ards Half Marathon and the fourth Walk. The event has grown in popularity each year and is becoming known for the generous support and encouragement around the course from marshals and staff and the post race hospitality when participants can enjoy a chat with others over a light supper.

The event has been endorsed by Athletics Northern Ireland and has been appointed as the organisation's Half Marathon Championship race for 2013. The route is one of the most scenic, taking participants up to Scrabo where there are beautiful views down to Strangford Lough and the rolling countryside.

All finishers will receive a medal to mark their achievement.

Bedgebury Cycling club (the largest Mountain Bike Club in the South East of England) have chosen Alzheimer's Society as their partner charity for this year’s Insomnia Cycling Challenge. The race is an off-road mountain bike race taking place on a mixture of fun and twisty single tracks and wider forest roads. You don't need an expensive bike to take part, but something with knobbly tyres will certainly help! You will also need lights bright enough to show you the way, as the forest is not lit apart from the arena area.

The race itself starts at 8pm on Saturday 6 July and runs for 12 hours finishing at 8am on Sunday 7 July.

Join us for an exciting day of sport this September. Enjoy two rounds of Golf and two lovely meals for teams of four raising vital funds for Alzheimer's Society. 18 holes at Cottingham Parks and 18 holes at neighbouring Skidby Lakes. Come and join us on our five mile walk as we follow the By-Brook to Long Dean before heading for Yatton Keynell Nature Reserve. A gentle climb to Kents Bottom Farm and the water tower, before returning on the level along the Palladian Way.

Although less hilly than previous walks, it is not suitable for pushchairs. A number of pubs are situated nearby for lunch afterwards. Simply turn up on the day or email Community Fundraiser, Rachael Sweet on rachael.sweet@alzheimers.org.uk.
