LGBT Carers Group newsletter, July 2008

Last LGBT newsletter

This will be the last LGBT newsletter in its present form. Alzheimer's Society is becoming more inclusive in its policy and practice which means that our work can increasingly focus on enabling those who provide services from the Society and members of the Society to recognise the unique needs of carers who are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender and those with dementia.

It has always been our aim to reach a stage where the Society does not need a separate LGBT group because it has become fully prepared to meet our needs on a local basis. We are not complacent however and recognise that we have not yet met
that aim and so we will be mailing our associates at various points to update them on important issues of relevance.

However our telephone support service continues to exist as do the pages related to LGBT carers on the Alzheimer's Society website. All those who work on the Alzheimer's Society National Dementia Helpline are trained to respond empathetically to LGBT callers and will signpost them immediately to our carers phone lines when requested.
