Meeting the complex needs of people with dementia
This unique modular training programme has been developed in response to the need for staff training to address the more complex needs of those living with dementia.
Alzheimer's Society has developed a series of specialist, in-depth training modules designed to enable staff to provide the best possible care for people living with the disease.
Modules
- Dementia awareness revisited - refresh basic dementia knowledge
- Communicating with people with dementia - explores how dementia influences an individual's ability to communicate.
- Behaviours that challenge - equipping staff to respond appropriately to feelings and behaviour which are difficult to understand.
- Supporting relationships in dementia care - understanding the importance of maintaining relationships for people with dementia.
- Activities in dementia care - how to provide frequent, relevant and person-centred activities for people with dementia.
- The later stages of dementia - particular issues relating to supporting people in the later stages of dementia.
- End of life care for people with dementia - providing end of life care appropriate to the needs of a person with dementia.
Organisations can select the modules which best meet the learning needs of their staff, creating an education programme which will meet the specific needs of the workforce. The minimum programme length for delivery is one study day, be that two half day modules delivered back to back, or one full day module and each session can accommodate up to 16 participants.
