Alzheimer's Society provides funding for four types of research grant:

  • Project grants
  • Fellowship grants
  • PhD studentship grants
  • Dissemination grants

Read about our new, current and completed funded research.

Project Grant

Researchers and clinicians who are established in the field of dementia research can apply for funding for a major project or programme. This research includes laboratory-based science, development of new treatments, clinical trials and studies into care practice.

Fellowship Grant

Fellowship grants are available for individuals who are ready to embark on independent research in the field of dementia. Research fellows may be scientists with a PhD, clinicians or individuals with a relevant professional qualification.

Alzheimer's Society is dedicated to supporting these early career scientists in an effort to build a strong community of researchers who represent the future of dementia research.

PhD Studentship Grant

Established researchers can apply for a PhD studentship grant to fund the research studies of a PhD student. This funding is essential for encouraging young scientists to get involved in dementia research and enabling existing research groups to grow.

Dissemination Grant

Dissemination grants enable scientists to broadcast the findings of completed research to a wide audience. Dissemination of research findings ensures that health professionals, carers, people with dementia and the general public are informed about the most recent research into dementia and its implications.

Information for scientists about applying for funding is available online with full details of application forms and guidance notes for each grant.

Research strategy is guided with the help of the Research Advisory Committee and our lay review panel.

Alzheimer's Society is a member of the Association of Medical Research Charities (AMRC) and conforms to the AMRC Guidelines for Good Research Practice.
