Primary care
There are between 12 and 20 people with dementia on an average GP list. People with dementia often need specific information and support, and their GP plays a vital role in enabling them to manage their condition.
There may be specialist services you can refer patients to in your area, including Memory Clinics, mental health teams, or social services. You can also direct patients to Alzheimer's Society.

Resources for primary care teams
Two thirds of people with dementia do not currently have a diagnosis, which prevents them receiving the care they need to live well with dementia.
Alzheimer's Society's 'Worried about your memory?' campaign aims to increase the number of people being diagnosed with dementia. If you are a GP or medical student you can request a free copy of the campaign CD-Rom, 'Dementia: Management in Primary Care' by emailing waym@alzheimers.org.uk.
You can also find further information about dementia on this website, including:
- A-Z of dementia
