Tips for collecting sponsorship money and donations

What do you do now?

Thank you once again for fundraising for the Alzheimer's Society. Your support really is greatly appreciated and the funds you have raised will go towards helping people with dementia, their carers and families.

Once you have recovered from taking part in the event your thoughts will no doubt turn towards collecting in the money, here are some tips to help you. We appreciate that this can be very difficult and extremely time consuming, so thank you in advance for your time and perseverance. 

• Write a one-page newsletter about the event and include a photocopy of a photo of you taking part and send it to your sponsors to remind them to pay up. 
• Email colleagues to warn them you will be round to collect their sponsorship shortly. This will make it easier for them to obtain change or remember to bring their chequebooks in. If you can, wait until pay day as sponsors may be even more generous. 
• Sponsors or donors should make their cheques payable to the Alzheimer's Society and give them to you to send to us. If people make cheques payable to you or give you cash, you can send us a cheque for the total you have been given. 
• Remember; if the money you have raised is for research or for a branch please write this clearly on your donation form when you send in your sponsorship money. 
• Please do encourage your sponsors or donors to tick the Gift Aid box on the sponsorship forms. Gift Aid means that for every £1 given, the Society will receive an extra 28p from the Inland Revenue. In order for us to claim Gift Aid sponsors need to write down their full address including postcode. Please do let them know that we do not use sponsor's details for marketing or fundraising purposes. 
• If you have collected money via Justgiving.com please be aware that on-line donations come directly to the Society. When you send us your sponsorship cheques please could you remind us that you have also used the JustGiving site to collect funds. 
• Please remember to include a donation form with any cheques or sponsorship forms you send to us. It is almost impossible for us to track the origin of funds sent to us without a participant's details attached.
