There are many types of dementia, the most common being Alzheimer's disease, vascular dementia and dementia with Lewy bodies.
Diagnosing dementia can often be difficult, particularly in the early stages. The GP should be your first point of consultation.
An analysis of the Global Burden of Disease Study, published today (18 December) in The Lancet, has found that Alzheimer's disease was responsible for 52 per cent more deaths in 2013 compared to 1990.
There are lots of ways you can get involved and support us, from fundraising and volunteering to campaigns, challenges and events.
Our unique research programme funds research into the cause, cure, care and prevention of dementia, to improve treatment for people today and find a cure for tomorrow.
