Volunteers
play an integral part in the support offered by the branch to local people
with dementia and their carers. The
contribution of volunteers to the work
of the Society is valued and respected.
They keep the organisation in touch with
people in need and provide a wide range
of relevant skills and perspectives.
There are three different types of
volunteers.
As an
occasional volunteer you can get involved in organising
awareness raising events or fundraising events such as street
collections or coffee mornings.
As a
regular volunteer you may
take on the role of a befriender to a carer, help to distribute
information around the city, staff information stalls, or some general
office duties.
As a
branch development committee member
you
will be involved in the running of the branch. Committee members also have
the opportunity to get involved in fundraising and awareness raising
events throughout the year.
"I chose to do
voluntary work for the Newcastle branch
of the Alzheimer's Society because my
wife died from the illness a few years
ago. I really enjoy it because I'm the
type of person who is very people
orientated. I find the work rewarding and
enjoyable; it allows me the opportunity
to put something back into my
community."
Don,
fundraising and awareness raising
volunteer
"The branch greatly appreciates the contribution made by
all volunteers and the time that is given."
Eric MacKinlay, Branch
Chairman
"Without
the support of volunteers the branch
would not be able to achieve all it
does." Carol
Metcalfe, Branch Manager
