Information and education

Alzheimer's Society

A lot of our work involves raising awareness about dementia and the issues that affect someone with dementia, their families and carers. We provide opportunities for people to access information and advice, learn more about dementia and have a say about the issues that matter to them and their families.

Information and advice

We deal with hundreds of enquiries each year from a wide range of people including people with dementia, carers, health and social care professionals, student social workers and nurses and the general public.

We receive enquiries by telephone, email, post, and while attending local events. We aim to deal with all enquiries within five working days and when responding by post we send items second class. The service is open Monday to Friday 9am - 4.30pm.

Branch newsletter

The branch newsletter is a quarterly publication.  It helps to keep people informed and up to date with local events and Society news.  If you would like to contribute an article please contact us.

Information points

We have a number of information points throughout the city including public libraries and community centres.  The stands hold copies of the Society's information and advice sheets as well as branch and Society leaflets.  Information is kept up to date by volunteers.  They are usually located in public areas and specific locations.  Current specific locations include the Centre for the Health of the Elderly and the Newcastle Memory Clinic at Newcastle General Hospital.

  • If you know of an appropriate venue where an information point could be located, please contact the branch.
