Jo Brand
Biography
One of Britain's most popular comedians, Jo is a passionate supporter of Alzheimer's Society and became an ambassador to the Society in 2007.
As well as being a stand-up comic, Jo is a best-selling author. She also co-wrote and starred in BBC 4's critically acclaimed Getting On, a satirical comedy set in an NHS hospital ward.
Jo cared for people with dementia during her training to become a psychiatric nurse, which was her occupation for 10 years.
Jo has supported Alzheimer's Society on a number of appeals, including the Society's Christmas Appeals and the Counting the Cost report, which revealed unacceptable variations in the quality of care for people with dementia in hospital.
'Whilst working as a psychiatric nurse with people with Alzheimer's, I saw how family members suffer because they feel they have already lost their loved ones. Caring for a friend or family member with Alzheimer's disease is no joke.'
