                                                    Memory Walk 2008

On Sunday 7th September we will be hosting our third ‘Memory Walk & Family Fun Day’ in Central Park in Peterborough.

Previously the day has been a huge success in terms of fundraising, raising over £4,000 in 2006. We would like to beat that if we can. It’s a great chance to get together and share in the fun of the walk. We will also remember everyone we know and love that has dementia, cares for someone with dementia and those people who are sadly not with us to join in the day.

Kevin will be setting the style standards for the day by wearing a blond wig and a dress!! Only if he gets enough sponsorship though. Make a donation at the office today or sponsor Kevin online at www.justgiving.com/kevinbowyer

We are delighted that ‘Kev Lawrence’ from the breakfast show on ‘Hereward FM Radio’ is starting the walk for us. The walk commences at 2pm. We will be there with fun, games, a book stall, tombola and raffle from 11am.

Q. How do I take part?

A. Either register your interest at the branch and ask for a sponsor form, or join us on the day and make a pledge of £2.50 to walk with us. Bring your sponsor form with you on the day and we’ll sign it to say you have participated.

Q. What other ways can I help to fundraise?

A. You can sell raffle tickets for the raffle that will be drawn at the Memory Walk. Prizes include a trial flying lesson, £20 John Lewis voucher and a bottle of Champagne.

You should have already received your raffle tickets and sponsorship form for the walk in the post. If you would like further copies please contact the branch on 01733 893853.

We will also have a tombola, a book stall and fun games for children. If anyone has any books or tombola items please either bring them into the branch or contact Naomi or Niki in the office. We are also looking to borrow a few gazebo’s if anyone is willing to loan to us for the day.

Q. Where do the proceeds from the event go?

All the proceeds from the Memory Walk in Peterborough stay at the Peterborough Branch to support local services.

We’ll be there come rain or shine!been sponsored by B

                                                                        Memory Walk 2006

We are delighted to say that our second Memory Walk and Family Fun Day was a huge success.  It was held in Central Park, Peterborough on Sunday 10th September 2006 and it was a glorious day!  The sun shone on us and brought many people to the park.  We estimate that over 100 people walked with us around the park.  Kev Lawrence from LITE FM Breakfast show started the walk for us and members of the Rotary kindly marshalled on the route around the park.

We had stalls, a tombola, a balloon race (see results below), a raffle and children's rides and face painting.  Through everyone's hard work and dedication over £2,000 was raised.  These funds will be used directly by the Peterborough Branch for services in Greater Peterborough.  Thanks to everyone for taking part in the balloon race.  As part of the Memory Walk and Family Fun Day it contributed almost £70 to the total.  The winner and runner-up have now been contacted - congratulations to them.

We would like to thank all those who helped on the day, supported by walking with us, raising sponsorship and sharing in a wonderful day.  The event was a great opportunity to meet friends of the branch, new and old.

                                                                         Memory Walk 2004

On Sunday 19th September 2004 we held our first Memory Walk at Itter Park, Gunthorpe, Peterborough.  It was a great success in terms of how many people took part, publicity in raising awareness and also fund raising for the branch.  We estimate that over 85 people walked with us, most people taking the longer route around the playing fields.  Another 40 or so took part in the day and enjoyed the atmosphere.

Barry Fry, Manager of Peterborough United Football Club started the walk for us and also joined in.  The Werrington Branch of the Peterborough Rotary helped us on the day with marshalling, getting the park ready with gazebos, signs and banners and helped with the fundraising.  There was a tombola, book stall, our Memory Walk raffle and both bowls and pitch and putt tournaments.  A total of £3,778 was raised from the event.

Thank you to everyone who was involved.
