Dementia Awareness Week 2008

'Be head strong' - Dementia Awareness Week in July 2008 was as successful as ever within the branch, our ever popular cream tea on Thursday 10th July was enjoyed by all especially the tasty scones and strawberries (thanks to Waitrose for kindly donating the cream teas ingredients and raffle prizes) it was lovely to see everyone who attended.

Our AOM was well attended with a very interesting talk being given by Dr S Nyastanza.  The Branch Development Committee members were as usual confirmed in and we thank all of those members for doing so.

Our collection on the Saturday at Queensgate raised a fantastic amount of over £970, thanks to all those of you that helped out ont he day, it is very much appreciated and just proves that those individual hours collecting makes a big difference.

As ever thanks to everyone who helped out and supported us during the week.

About Us

Alzheimer's Society is a membership organisation, which works to improve the quality of life of people affected by dementia in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Many of our 25,000 members have personal experience of dementia, as carers, health professionals or people with dementia themselves, and their experiences help to inform our work.

Awareness Week 2007

‘If your memories are important to you, Show you care by wearing blue’

The Peterborough Branch of the Alzheimer’s Society marked national ‘Awareness Week’ by asking local businesses and organisations to ‘wear something blue’ and support the people of Greater Peterborough who live with dementia.

Each supporter was encouraged to donate £1 towards branch funds and to wear something blue to show their support.  Several local businesses supported us and we received £154 in total from them.

At the branch we had a cream tea on Thursday 28th June 2007 and raised £130.  We also had a collection at Bridge Street and Long Causeway and collected over £450.

A very big thank you to everyone who supported us during this week!

Awareness Week 2006

Many thanks to all of you who participated in our Awareness Week in July.  The strawberry tea was again a huge success and it was lovely to see so many of you there.  The strawberries themselves were hand picked by Naomi, no wonder they tasted so good.

We also held a collection in the town centre on Friday 7th July to raise vital funds for the branch, we are very grateful to those of you who collected on the day.  We raised £543.43 thank you so much.  Thanks too go to Julie, who organised a pub crawl and raised £174.24, I can confirm that Julie was still standing at the end of the evening!  The dolls house raffle raised another £75.00 and was won by Kate Marshall of the AS Fenland Branch.

The week ended with our AGM, this year we held the event at Rectory Gardens Surgery, Fletton.  Many thanks to Dr Chinn and his colleagues for making this possible.  Shirley Nurock from our QDS gave a very interesting talk and provided us with an insight into the work the Society is doing with regard to research into dementia.

I am also pleased to inform you that every member of our committee stood for re-election and all were duly elected.  Gill Lintott was also elected which is great news for the branch; her knowledge and experience will be invaluable as we continue to drive the branch forward.

Awareness Week 2005

The Alzheimer's Society's Awareness Week for 2005 concentrated on dementia in younger people and had a theme of 'Think again'.

The week was framed by highly successful fund-raising pub-crawls – thanks to all those who took part and to the pubs who allowed us to, a total of £379.72 was raised – and by a simultaneously cheerful and moving church service kindly devoted to us by the Salvation Army.

The week included a full day of street collecting in the city centre (raising £817.61 in total), during which it seemed that the whole world – and his dog – had turned out to relieve Peterborough pockets of their loose change (thanks again to all those, ie nearly everyone reading this, who got involved), and a lively and lip-smacking Strawberry Tea; thanks to the tea-makers, scone-slicers, jam-spreaders, cream-spooners and Sainsburys.
