Although part of the Alzheimer's Society, as a branch we are financially independent and need to fundraise to provide items for our day centre, to run the carers' services and the branch.  We will also need to raise money to fund the replacement of our two mini-buses.

We are actively recruiting more volunteers to help us raise the much needed additional funds.  We hope that you will feel motivated to support our very special branch.  Please do not hesitate to contact us at White Gables to discuss how you could get involved.

Fund Raising Events and Donations

We have been involved in a variety of events in an effort to raise funds. We  hold various events throughout the Borough and wish to involve as many members and non-members of the branch as possible. Events have included:

  • Coffee mornings
  • Quiz nights with supper
  • Charity golf days at Westerham Golf Club.
  • Dance and silent auctions.
  • Pavement art shows.
  • Charity performances at Bromley Little Theatre.
  • Orchestral concerts
  • Dinner-dances
  • Fairs
  • Charity collections

In addition, there have been other events, generally not organised by us, where the raffle or proceeds have been donated to the branch.  These have included:

  • Sponsorship of competitors in the Great North Run and the London Marathon
  • School concerts
  • Fashion show

If you would like to hold a coffee morning or a meal in your home with friends and family or arrange to hold an event at a venue near you, we can offer support and practical help. We are always looking for new fundraising ideas and would welcome your suggestions.  Please contact us at White Gables on 020 8460 9245 if you are interested.

Donations

We have been fortunate to receive donations from individuals, local businesses and charitable groups which have gone towards the funding of the new minibuses and the refurbishment of White Gables.

Donations form a very important part of our income.  Now you can make your donations go even further.  By completing a Gift Aid declaration, the value of your donations to Bromley branch can be increased by almost a third, at no extra cost to you, because the Alzheimer's Society can reclaim the tax on them.  If you pay tax at the higher rate you can claim further tax relief in your Self Assessment tax return.  Gift Aid forms are available from White Gables.  We are grateful to all of you who have already returned your forms to us.  This has enabled us to reclaim over £2000 in the first year.

Regular donations can also be made by standing order direct to our bank account.  Please contact Jim Martin, our treasurer, (c/o White Gables on 020 8460 9245) for further details.

The committee thanks everyone who has supported us by giving time, goods or monetary donations.  Please continue to tell family and friends about our events and if you would like to help in any way please let us know.

Charity of the Year

Some local groups and businesses kindly nominate us as their charity of the year and such initiatives are greatly welcomed.

Collecting Cans

Collecting cans are available for placement in locations such as shops and offices, or even at home.  Please contact us at White Gables on 020 8460 9245) if you would like a can.

50/50 Club

What is the 50/50 Club?

In joining the 50/50 Club you will be able to make a very welcome contribution and support the work of the branch. At the same time you will have the opportunity to participate in our monthly draw.

Half the total subscriptions each year are donated to the Bromley branch of the Alzheimer's Society and the other half is returned to members of the 50/50 Club in cash prizes. Thus the name "50/50" Club.

The annual subscription is £12, or a multiple of £12. On joining you will receive a membership certificate with your personal membership number.  Your number will be entered in the draw each month that you remain a member.

At current levels of membership there are monthly prizes of £100, £75, £50, £30, and £25 with extra prizes at Easter and Christmas. Winners are advised by post and the details are published in the branch newsletter.

At the present level of membership the club is currently raising nearly £7,000 per year, half of which supports the branch and day centre, the other half makes up the prizes.

The prize money at present is £280 per month, the Christmas payment is £520 and the Easter payment is £300.  If you would like to join, or if you would like to give someone a membership subscription as a gift, an application form can be printed if you click here.

If you would prefer to have a form sent to you please contact the volunteer promoter, Ken Short, at White Gables.
