The Rimers
of Eldritch - a play by Lanford Wilson
Performed at
the Bromley Little Theatre. North Street, Bromley BR1 4AA
This
is a charity performance by Bromley Little Theatre in aid of our branch.
Tickets
£8 each available from Leah at White Gables.
Their
synopsis states: This is a powerful piece of theatre, a thought provoking
play, beautifully poetic and truly individual in style. A dramatic pattern
of events that will leave you to ponder the town's mystery and revelations
long after the lights have dimmed and the play has ended. A definite must
see.

Branch Manager
It is with regret that we say goodbye to Mary Mason, our branch
manager. Mary has worked extremely hard during the last 20 months
and overseen the successful transition of the branch within the 'One
Society'.
Mary has decided to move on to pastures new and we thank her for all
she has done to further the aims of the branch and wish her every success in her new venture.

28th Annual
Meeting of the Alzheimer's Society, Bromley Branch
Held
on Wednesday
17 September 2008 at Community House, South Street, Bromley
BR1 1RH
The Branch Development Committee chairman Ken Addis presented the
branch annual report and finance report, which were well received.
In his annual report he gave a potted history of
his involvement with the branch and highlighted some of the achievements
and activities which had taken place during the year. Further
details from this report may be
seen by clicking here.
Area Manager Ian Howarth spoke about the current changes
and future plans for the Society, including the much awaited National Dementia Strategy which is due to be published this autumn. Both Ken and Ian emphasised the need to make good use of the branch funds to further extend the services we provide.
Suzanne Doyle was elected as Honorary Treasurer, and Peter Murphy and Ken Short were both elected
to the Branch Development Committee. We would like to thank Suzanne, Peter and Ken for standing and we very much look forward to working with them.
Our guest speaker this year was Rebecca Jarvis from the London Borough of Bromley / Bromley Primary Care Trust who gave us a fascinating insight into the ways in which the provision of social care in Bromley is being transformed to meet the ever-evolving needs of the local community.

Newsletter
We now have a new style Bromley branch newsletter which has been redesigned to incorporate the Society’s revised branding and colour scheme. We hope
that the recipients enjoy reading it and find it both entertaining and enlightening.
Ken Short, a new member of the Branch Development Committee, has kindly volunteered to take on the role of editor.
Looking forward, we plan to issue the branch newsletter twice a year – in the spring and in the autumn.
The newsletter will be supplemented by a new monthly ‘Carers News’, also produced in the Society’s new styling.
The team have been beavering away on this and hopefully carers will already have received their copy of the September edition.

Flag Day 1st July
Tuesday, 1st July, a gloriously hot sunny day (yes, we did actually have one or two this summer!), saw
branch staff, committee members and an army of 71 volunteers in various locations throughout the Borough
with collecting boxes as part of the Society’s annual flag day.
It was, once again, an enormously successful day and we collected over £4,300. Many thanks to everyone who took part.
To promote the work of the Society, we stationed a caravan in Bromley High Street from where we also offered advice and guidance to members of the public. On the day we received a number of requests for support from carers and these are currently being actively followed up.

27 February
2007 - Visit from HRH Princess Alexandra
Princess
Alexandra made a welcome return to the Bromley branch after 15 years,
having officially opened the White Gables day centre in
1992.
During her
visit Princess Alexandra was received by the Mayor of Bromley, Charles Joel,
and was presented to representatives of the Bromley PCT, Oxleas NHS Trust
and Social Services. She chatted at length to all staff, volunteers
and committee members and particularly to our service users together with any
of their carers who were present.
Chairman Len
Abbott said "We are thrilled that Princess Alexandra has visited the
Bromley branch. Her Royal Highness was our guest of honour when we
opened our building in 1992 and we have been looking forward to showing
her how far we've come. We support over a hundred local people every
week through our day centre, outreach support and with information and
advice"
It was a
very pleasant visit and the day was enjoyed by all.
